Bir sarac\u0131n o\u011fludur. As\u0131l ad\u0131 \u00d6mer&#8217;dir. Aziz Efendi&#8217;nin Muhayyel\u00e2t&#8217;\u0131ndaki &#8220;K\u0131ssa-\u0131 Naci&#8221;den duygulanarak \u015fiirlerinde Naci ad\u0131n\u0131 kulland\u0131. Muallim s\u0131fat\u0131 ise, Tercem\u00e2n-\u0131 Hakikat gazetesinin edeb\u00ee ilavesini y\u00f6netti\u011fi s\u0131rada, gen\u00e7lerin gazeteye g\u00f6nderdikleri yaz\u0131lar\u0131 bu adla d\u00fczeltmesinden \u00e7\u0131km\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Said Pa\u015fa&#8217;n\u0131n maiyetinde olarak imparatorlu\u011fun bir\u00e7ok yerlerinde uzun s\u00fcre dola\u015ft\u0131ktan sonra, Pa\u015fa&#8217;n\u0131n H\u00e2riciye Naz\u0131rl\u0131\u011f\u0131na tayini \u00fczerine, tekrar \u0130stanbul&#8217;a d\u00f6nd\u00fc. Pa\u015fa&#8217;n\u0131n Berlin el\u00e7ili\u011fine tayininde ise, oraya gitmek istemeyerek, \u0130stanbul&#8217;da kald\u0131 ve yaz\u0131 hayat\u0131na at\u0131ld\u0131. Kendi kendisini yeti\u015ftirenlerdendir. Mekteb-i Hukuk ve Galatasaray Sultan\u00eesi edebiyat \u00f6\u011fretmenliklerinde ve II. Bu h\u0131zl\u0131 ve yayg\u0131n \u00fcnde, \u015fiirdeki eski-yeni m\u00fccadelesinin 1385- 1893 aras\u0131ndaki en \u015fiddetli safhas\u0131na -eski edebiyat taraftarlar\u0131n\u0131n lideri olarak- ad\u0131n\u0131n geni\u015f g\u00fcr\u00fclt\u00fclerle kar\u0131\u015fm\u0131\u015f olmas\u0131n\u0131n da pay\u0131 b\u00fcy\u00fckt\u00fcr. Eski nazm\u0131n tekni\u011fini iyi bilen ve ona kuvvetle h\u00e2kim olan Naci&#8217;nin bu teknikle yazd\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u015fiirlerin say\u0131s\u0131, Bat\u0131\u2019n\u0131n tesirinde yazd\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u015fiirlerin say\u0131s\u0131ndan \u00e7oktur. Ayd\u0131n bir aileye mensup bulunmamas\u0131 ve \u00fcstelik yeti\u015fme ve geli\u015fme \u00e7a\u011f\u0131nda \u0130stanbul&#8217;un ayd\u0131n \u00e7evrelerinden uzakta kalmas\u0131, yeni edeb\u00ee ak\u0131mlardan zaman\u0131nda haber alamamas\u0131, Frans\u0131zcay\u0131 ge\u00e7 \u00f6\u011frenmesi ve bu y\u00fczden Bat\u0131 edebiyat\u0131 ile de erken temasa ge\u00e7ememesi gibi sebeblerle -bir hamle adam\u0131 karakteri ta\u015f\u0131mas\u0131na ra\u011fmen- daha \u00e7ok eski edebiyat saflar\u0131nda kalan Naci, Frans\u0131z edebiyat\u0131n\u0131 tan\u0131d\u0131ktan sonra Bat\u0131 edebiyat\u0131n\u0131n da de\u011ferini iyice anlad\u0131. Ancak, Frans\u0131z edebiyat\u0131ndan terc\u00fcmeler yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 ve bir de piyes yazd\u0131\u011f\u0131 halde, tam bir d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015f yapman\u0131n art\u0131k imk\u00e2ns\u0131zl\u0131\u011f\u0131 kar\u015f\u0131s\u0131nda, ortalama bir yol tutturarak, T\u00fcrk edebiyat\u0131n\u0131n k\u00f6kten de\u011fil, k\u0131sm\u00ee bir \u015fekilde modernle\u015ftirilmesine taraftar olabildi. Bu davran\u0131\u015f\u0131, onu bat\u0131l\u0131 tarzda da \u015fiir denemelerine g\u00f6t\u00fcrd\u00fc ve ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131 \u00f6rnekler verdi. Daha \u00e7ok \u00c2te\u015f-p\u00e2re&#8217;de rastlanabilen bu \u00f6rnekler aras\u0131nda, Kuzu, Dicle, Keb\u00fbter, \u015e\u00e2m-\u0131 Gariban en tan\u0131nm\u0131\u015f ve be\u011fenilmi\u015f olanlar\u0131d\u0131r.
